Residents are encouraged to continue with their own interests and hobbies, and to maintain a lifestyle which is as active and normal as possible. We arrange social activities and events taking into consideration individual preferences and capabilities.
Devotions and services
Bethany House is a Christian home. Respect and assistance are given to enable residents to follow their faith in the home and to encourage participation in the local church of their particular denomination.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the Sunday and Monday morning devotions. These are taken by visiting ministers or friends of Bethany House. Holy Communion is available on Monday morning, and you may ask your own minister to visit and receive Holy Communion privately if you prefer. On Thursdays our pastoral team arranges groups and meetings with a variety of activities, which can include prayer, singing, Bible study, discussion and spiritual reflection.
In addition to our regular meetings, there are also visits from churches, local schools and student groups from time to time, such as at Christmas, Easter and Harvest.
Activities
Our activities team arranges a varied programme, which may include music, films, pampering, crafts, board games, carpet bowls and exercise.
We welcome visitors for events such as piano recitals, music and drama entertainment and clothing parties. Special events are also organised to celebrate seasonal or national occasions. Regular residents’ meetings encourage feedback and suggestions about the activities provided.
We often have a visiting scheme with a local nursery, where children come and undertake various craft activities and games with residents. Both age groups seem to enjoy and benefit from the shared time.
Outings
Trips out are arranged, especially during the summer months, to various places of interest, and we often arrange a stop for refreshments on the way! Recent trips have been to Lytham St Annes and Dobbies Garden Centre. We usually enjoy an annual outing to Blackpool Lights, with a fish and chip supper.
Other amenities
Local shops are within a short distance for active residents to walk to. A computer tablet is available to keep in touch with family and friends. Wi-Fi internet access is installed throughout the home so you can use your own laptop or tablet, etc., if you prefer. We can help residents with IT and with accessing services such as video calling.
